Joint security operations across the Kampala Metropolitan area have resulted in the arrest of over 140 suspects, as authorities step up efforts to curb crime and drug-related offenses.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the coordinated operations targeted known criminal hideouts and black spots linked to robberies, drug abuse, and violent attacks on pedestrians.
“Police and other sister security agencies have conducted coordinated disruptive operations across different policing areas in a continued effort to curb rising criminality,” Owoyesigyire said.
In Bukerere and Namataba Town Council, night operations conducted between February 18 and 19 led to the arrest of 19 suspects involved in drug abuse, robbery, and pedestrian attacks.
Narcotics were recovered, and the suspects are detained at Goma and Namataba police stations pending prosecution.
Operations in Kisaasi and Kyanja under Kira Road Division resulted in the arrest of seven suspects. Police recovered pangas, a hammer, suspected stolen phones, bags, identification cards, and rolls of opium.
In Kabalagala, operations targeting muggings and theft of vehicle side mirrors around Arena Mall and Mukwano Road led to the arrest of seven suspects, who have been charged and detained.
Meanwhile, a joint operation in Nakulabye under Old Kampala Police Station between 12am and 3am on February 18 led to the arrest of 110 suspects—40 women and 70 men—following public complaints about robberies, phone snatching, and drug abuse.
Knives and opium were recovered, and the suspects are awaiting court action.
Owoyesigyire said police will continue these operations to eliminate criminal elements and enhance public safety.
“The situation in all the affected areas is currently calm and normal,” he added.
